Bush and Saddam . . . pistols at dawn . . . last man standing wins. It could happen. Those two have a thing for each other. The common Iraqi and American folks aren't argueing, so why not a duel? If you think that's far-fetched, tell it to Iraqi Vice-President Taha Yassin Ramadan.

According to an AP story, the Iraqi vice-leader, who may or may not have been joking, suggested the old-fashioned form of conflict resolution, using UN Secretary General Kofi Annan as referee. "In this way," he said, "we are saving the American and the Iraqi people."

I've long thought that wars should be fought by the people that want to fight them. While I'm all for Saddam spending the rest of his miserable life in prison, I don't think we need to waste a few thousand civilians in the process. People on that side of the world tend to think of Americans as cowboys anyway and, after all, the "President" is from Texas.

Bush dismissed the suggestion however, questioning the sincerity of the proposal. "Oh no," he said, " There's an old saying we have here in Washingberg - Saddam fooled me once. I, he, uh, won't get fooled again!"
