Those of us who were fortunate enough to grow up with loving parents have difficulty imagining life in an abusive home. One of my favorite blog writers, Elsa, was not nearly so fortunate and shares just one incident from her childhood. It is a horrifying story. But it is also a trbute to the power of the human spirit that she has grown up to be a warm, funny and loving woman. And a good writer, too.

A local man is another candidate-in-waiting for the Darwin Awards. Timothy Grubb, 46, and his girlfriend split up four months ago. Mr. Grubb had a hard time getting over it though and finally did what any self-respecting future Darwin winner would do - he decided to burn down her house.

It should come as no surprise that alcohol was a part of this life-changing decision. After he was well fortified, he drove to girlfriend's house and, while she slept, poured gasoline all around the house and garage. That must have been hard work because Tim decided to reward himself for a job well done. He leaned back against the house and lit a cigarette.

Mr. Grubb is in critical condition with burns over 85% of his body.

Life is hard, but it's harder when you're stupid.
