Arrgghhh! Henry Kissinger, the Mad Bomber of Cambodia and possible war criminal, has been named by the "President" to lead an independent panel to investigate U.S. intelligence failures before the September 11 terrorist attacks. Why not get the Unabomber on the panel, too? He's got some terrorism experience. Maybe confessed spy Aldrich Ames? Wouldn't he be a good choice?

A group of Canadian and American biologists are considering experimenting with mice that contain human stem cells. This would be a way to further stem cell research without using human embryos ('cause it pisses off the embryos too much). It's not all beer and skittles, however. One expert said that if done carelessly, the experiments could lead to outcomes "too horrible to contemplate." Which, of course, makes me start contemplating. If they used brain cells from Anna Nicole Smith, would the mouse be insulted? I can't wait to read Pesky the Rat's take on this.

Wotta chump!

Jason Rice, 27, of Cleveland, took a day off from his job as curator of Etruscan Antiquities at the Natural Science Museum (so I'm lying) and decided to rob a bank. He was not only successful, he was lucky. The bobby-trapped money with the dye didn't explode as it was supposed. Jason made it home and hid the money under a rug in his basement bedroom.

But Jason was also unlucky. His mom came downstairs and noticed a smoky mist that burned her eyes. So, being a sensible woman, she called the fire department. They came, noticed a red stain on the carpet and found, underneath, Jason's now red-stained money. The cash had belatedly detonated, after all. The fire department called the police, the police arrested Jason and now Jason gets to eat Thanksgiving dinner courtesy of the county.

It's not updated often, but when it is, it's worth the look. paulapalooza's recommended reading and such is a literate , but not overly serious look at the Holy Trinity of books, movies and music. She takes the path less traveled to review items that I hadn't yet tried, but am now sure that I want to. I hope she updates frequently.
