More triage complaints culled from a list kept at a now-defunct hospital in the city. This seemed to be a popular complaint - especially, for some reason, on night shift. "I got gongorea" or another way of saying the same thing, "I strained myself." But obviously not the result of any heavy lifting. Complaints centering on the crotch seem to be prevalent. States one woman, "My womb hurt and my booty hurt and they put a bow in me." And no, I have no idea what that means. The following is a little more clear - "I got sores on my Libya." Feeling uneasy about one's self is not uncommon, though it's not often expressed as "I got an unconfident cervix." People see the ED as a source of health maintainance and that's usually a good thing. Unfortunately, we had to answer in the negative to this man's request - "Do you got any free protolastics (prophylastics, i.e.: condoms)?" And what to do with this and why is it a complaint: "I lost my virginity tonight." (pt. was 32) Some things just sound right. "I take vitamin B12 for my pessimistic (pernicious) anemia." and "I've got sick-as-hell (sickle cell) anemia.", "My son's got chickenpops." For some things no explanation is needed. "I can't answer your questions because I'm not wrapped too tightly." "I have burning down there - in Florida." (said by a 4 year old with a urinary tract infection.) A sweet little old lady sadly explained "I've got the miseries and the dwindles."
Finally, here's one Steve Raker should appreciate. "What country are you from?" "Toledo." |

This is going to make a great movie! Diamonds - lots and lots of diamonds! Underneath the Antwerp Diamond Center in Brussels are 160 vaults filled with precious stones, the majority of which are diamonds. Those vaults are guarded around the clock by surveillance cameras and security officers. Last weekend, the center was robbed. According to an Associated Press story, thieves bypassed that security to steal the diamonds from 123 of the 160 vaults. It sounds like it would require a "Mission Impossible" -style operation. The center had been robbed once before. in 1994. Thieves hit five vaults, getting away with $4.55 million. So it is safe to assume that security had to be improved after that. They certainly have the means to employ state-of-the-art techniques. Yet, there was no sign of forced entry and a city magistrate said it would have taken them many hours to empty all of those vaults.
We've all seen the movies of daring big money heists and enjoyed them as escapist fantasy. It's easy to picture black-clad, sure-footed robbers stepping around laser beams and dropping from the ceiling. If the real story ever gets out, it will be an amazing one. (No, I'm not condoning robbery. But I have to admire the skill and wit it took to pull off this one.) I can't wait to see the movie. |
