On Bush, Iraq and the shitstorm to come. . . The calls by anti-war forces to end the war now are understandable, righteous and wrong. It was wrong to begin the war, but it would be wrong to do an about-face and give credence to the vicious Saddam and equally sick sons. It's a sad, fucked up situation with no good end. Bush, because he has the most power, bears the most responsibility. The war simply did not have to happen. But now it has. George Bush makes me miss Richard Nixon. That's not an easy thing to admit. However duplicitous and paranoid, Nixon had a good grasp of world diplomacy. The Bush idea of diplomacy is a sawed-off baseball bat. How did this so-called leader manage to squander every last bit of good will that had accrued to this country in the wake of September 11th? We will, eventually, win this undeclared war. But I am afraid that has spawned new terrorists and new conflicts. Bush wants America to go it alone. But there are too many of them and too few of us to be able to dominate the world forever. Fight the war. Get goddamned Saddam and his clique. Find them, kill them, get out of town. Then get ready for the shitstorm, because Bush has given license for any country to launch an unprovoked attack on any other country. Bush has stoked the fires and raised hatred of America to new levels. When terrorists next attack the U.S., the world community's sympathy will be limited. Bush is getting testy because reporters are asking skeptical questions. That's what they are supposed to do! Aside from Fox "News", reporters are not supposed to be shills for Bush/Cheny/Rumsfeld. We're being asked to pony up $75 billion for the unnecessary war and they think we shouldn't take a critical look at how the money is being used? If they don't like tough questions, tough shit. That's what they signed up for.
The blood on the hands of Saddam and others like him can never be washed away. There is blood on the hands of George W. Bush, as well - American, British and Iraqi blood. His illegitimate presidency has been disastrous for the economy, the environment, civil liberties and, especially, for the image of the United States around the world. Leaders are respected. Bullies are feared. George Bush, pounding the lectern - speaking. like. this. to. make. his. point. - is no leader. |

Another Diplomat for Peace - Reprinted from warblogging.com which needs donations to accomodate increased traffic. A senior American diplomat in Mongolia has resigned, saying Washington's policies towards Iraq and North Korea are making the world more dangerous. In a letter to the US State Secretary Colin Powell, Ann Wright - the deputy chief of mission at the US Embassy in the Mongolian capital, Ulan Bator - writes that the policy of pre-emptive attack on Iraq will provide justification for individuals and groups to pre-emptively attack America and its citizens. Ann Wright, who is the third US diplomat to resign in protest at the Bush administration's Iraq policy, also criticises the lack of contact with North Korea since the crisis over its nuclear programme began last October.
