Chuck Palahniuk gave an interview to Entertainment Weekly and asked for a few things to remain off the record. Evidently, the profile writer decided some of the gossip was too juicy to leave out of the article and put it all in, including information about Palahniuk's partner and outing them both. Palahniuk is understandably furious about this. He decided instead of letting EW out him, though, he'd do it himself on his website first. He accuses journalists (not specifically this EW writer) of having asked for money to keep his sexuality private and says he's saving a lot of blackmail money by just announcing it. Okay, I feel stupid for not figuring out that Palahniuk is gay. This would explain why I have the total hots for this guy.

I'm listening to his first Audblog post right now and it's rather heartbreaking, I think. We all need to write to EW and tell them they suck for putting him in this position. Well, maybe not, since I'm listening to Chuck's second phone-call-post where he's asking us all to ease up on EW and "relax". The guy seems stressed. Maybe we should just write to him instead with the kindness of our words...

Ever work in a bookstore? I pity poor, knowledgeable bookseller who's approached with the following question: "Do you have, like, that book that's based on that MTV movie 'Wuthering Heights'?" Then there will be the customers who will know that East of Eden is an Oprah book club selection but not know the name of John Steinbeck....
