Are the Totalitarians on the Defensive?
Feeling nervous at the growing public support for basic American rights and liberties, John Ashcroft has been ordered to make a public relations swing defending the Patriot Act, says the Washington Post.
I hope he is met with demonstrations in every city where he appears. His contempt for democracy is fully comparable with some of the Great American totalitarians of the past, such as Joe McCarthy, Attorney General Palmer, father of the illegal Palmer raids, and J Edgar Hoover, who ran the FBI as a personal blackmail ring.

Military Families organize to Bring the Troops Home
It looks like the soldiers are not alone. Now a number of military families have organized a new group, 'Bring the Troops Home', to highlight the need to get American soldiers out of Iraq, and out of unnecessary danger.
This is a great development, and promises to interject the fate of the forgotten U.S. soldiers, who took 3 killed today, into the political campaign.
Here is a typical media report. Fox News will attempt to isolate this phenomenon by saying that it is all people connected with the anti-war movement. But even Fox will have to listen to the comments of the soldiers themselves.
