Report from Dean HQ in Iowa
I am blogging from the Dean Headquarters in Des Moines. Most people are out at various visibility events. The voter I was driving to the caucus got sick, so I am back here. Joe Trppi just came in with some press, and went upstairs. Downstairs are about 50-75 stormers (the volunteer effort here was called the perfect storm) and some DFA staff. We are watching a televised caucus on CSPAN. Even though it is only one precinct, people here are cheering the pro-Dean comments, hoping he will win this caucus.
This afternoon, doing some last minute phone banking, I talked to a teacher who had just that day learned she will be laid off next year, and she asked me about Dean's position on education. I told her about his efforts to fully fund local schools and police and fire, by paying for special education at the federal level, and rolling back the tax cuts. She was a solid Dean supporter-- I was very emotional after the call.
Anyway, I will update this later. We won't know the results for a couple of hourse, even though some initial polls show Kerry possibly leading.
