Just because I'm tired of studying.

For what it's worth, my votes and comments in the ESPN Top 25 Fan Poll:

1. Duke - no one else has as many weapons.  Sleep through half the game and still win by double digits.
2. Arizona - going to have to prove to me they deserve everyone else's head job.
3. Indiana - poised, experienced, and unusually athletic.  Seven great efforts against very good comp.
4. Pittsburgh - haven't shown any signs of not being able to repeat last year's success - yet.
5. Oregon - looked good in a big win against a still-tough Kansas.  There's a lot of talent here.
6. Notre Dame - no one else playing as well right now.  Deepest backcourt in ball, and Francis is starting to assert himself down low.
7. Texas - despite popular opinion, didn't suck in loss to ND (13-24 from 3!) - that effort would've beaten most teams.
8. Alabama - good win over OU early, but seem to be sleepwalking through other games.
9. Kentucky - folt against UVa in Hawaii, but dominated UNC in Chapel Hill.  Most underrated frontcourt in the country.
10. Oklahoma - need to step it up a notch to repeat Final Four berth.
11. Illinois - crushed the only good team they've played so far.
12. Missouri - good athleticism, not sure they're this good, but again, haven't proven otherwise yet.
13. Connecticut - proved they can play absolutely horrible and still win - usually the mark of a good team.
14. Kansas - still very dangerous.  Great starters, not much else.
15. Maryland - sucked in two losses, but at least they were to good teams.  A mere shadow of last year's champs, though.
16. Creighton - all five starters back from last year's tournament team.  Don't sleep.
17. Texas Tech - I hate Knight, but he's got a team down here.
18. Xavier - haven't proven anything yet.  UC sucks.
19. Florida - looked great, then the Hoopies showed us there's chinks in the armor.
20. Tulsa - another Creighton-type program we'll continue to hear from.  Giving KU hell right now.
21. Marquette - weak schedule will prevent us from finding out how good they really are until March.
22. Stanford - some good wins early, but also barely beat BU.
23. Michigan State - Izzo's the only reason I even have them this high.  Possible repeat of the football team's flameout.
24. North Carolina - people jocked too early, but Felton and McCants are both real and superbad.  Too bad everyone else sucks.
25. Virginia - Tough ACC will keep them underrated - and dangerous - all year.

Honorable Mention - Wake Forest.  Like football, will probably fly under the radar in the tough ACC all year, but will be there in March, and could make noise.

The ACC is just sick.  Duke is awesome, Maryland, Carolina and Virginia are all good, and Wake, Florida State and Georgia Tech are all dangerously underrated.  Plus, people who claim to know think pretty highly of NC State as well, although I haven't seen them.

Couple of thoughts as a surprisingly quiet week on the Hater front draws to a close...

- As you may have noticed, there was no Weekly Target...of Hate! this week. Since a few of the Haters (read: everyone but me, pretty much) didn't have much to add, the idea has pretty much been shelved -- at least for now. Perhaps we'll revive the practice later on.

- As you also may have noticed, this site has gotten quite messy. Paragraphs used to fit neatly on the screen, and now they just run onandonandon...it's very annoying. I'm trying to figure out a fix, but I don't really know all that much about working with this template in HTML, so if anyone's had the same problem, be a pal and let me know how to fix it. Gracias.

- Trent Lott is getting off way too easy here. That is something we shall have to remedy when I return from Minnysota after the weekend...

- Someone explain to me why my newspaper -- which is nowhere near Akron, by the way -- is leading today's sports page with LeBron James. I don't get it...then again, I don't understand why my editor insists that a 4-6 team needs to be included in our weekly top 5 hoop rankings, either.

- ND women's hoop lost to unranked DePaul Wednesday. I guess turnabout is fair play.

- My fairly thorough review of unansweredquestions.org yielded 13 pages of notes -- which I plan on turning into a long-ass song reminiscent of Ras Kass' "Nature of the Threat." When the lyrics are done, I'll try to post them here, space permitting.

- Judging from our now-endless right boundary, I think space will permit. Gah...ugly.

- Why did the NY Times spike Dave Anderson when his column said nothing that would offend anyone on either side? Guess his nuts were lost during that huge fence-straddle he wrote...quite a disappointment.

- How long before some company markets a car with an American flag paint job?

- Early Fiesta Bowl prediction: Miami 51, Ohio State 3.

- Fifty-eight percent of all US males are apparently named Steve.

- My sister's boyfriend sucks. Just thought I'd share that. He's not named Steve...but that's what I'm calling him from now on.

- Is it okay to remain friends with someone who supports Bush? I'm having a hard time with this one.

- Is it too early to deposit Red Card into the "Where Are They Now?" file next to Marcia Clark and Christian Okoye?

- Oliver Miller is Chris Tucker in disguise. I'm convinced of it. Even sounds like him.

- Does Trent Lott's office in DC have a "colored" drinking fountain?

- Nas' last pre-Murder Inc. album drops Friday -- four days ahead of schedule due to bootlegging problems. In an unrelated story, the convenience store next door is selling bootleg copies of Nas' new album.

- Ja Rule and Ashanti are starring opposite one another in a movie next year. Can I get in line for tickets now, please?

If you can't tell, I'm sort of going through the motions today. My apologies...
