Hilary to Kathy, November 17, 1971, Arlington, VA Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1971
Dear Kathy,
Your father came by Sunday and again today with two Iranians before leaving. I was so shocked to see him Sunday! I haven’t seen you in so long it’s going to be weird when I finally see you again. I ended up just staring at your father. I told him to send you back for Christmas or next summer – he said he’d tell you & consider it. I wish you would come sometime – Soon! I don’t want to be all ancient before I see you!!! The Perrys weren’t home so he couldn’t look at the inside of your house. Mrs. F. & Jim ran out at the last minute – Jim had something for Steve but he couldn’t find it. It’s funny the way they still refer to “Jimmy” & “Stevie” –
Oh yes – your father took pictures of us on Sunday – I have to defend myself – I had just gotten up – hadn’t combed my hair or anything so I will probably look horrible in the pictures.
He said you’d been working on the Great American Novel – but not much poetry – Could you part with pieces of your manuscript (temporarily) and send them to me? I would really like to read it. I still have your first novel ever… I will hold onto it until it becomes a valuable item. I’ll say I was a friend of the Great American Authoress in some of her most trying years!! Don’t be pissed at that – please send me parts so I can read them.
As always I haven’t written or read anything of great value – A pity because my English teacher this year has us write themes and articles by the ton and we’re ‘sposed to read 12 books each term.
