Kathy to Hilary, July 22, 1972 cont., Tehran, Iran Well, well, well, you won’t believe how dowdy I’ve become. Well, I know I always was, but none of the current fashions appeal to me or suit my figure. I mean 140 lbs of girlflesh is a lot even though there’s a lot of room to spread it out on. Someday a Frog will kiss me and I’ll turn all green and warty and will be what I’m meant to be, a froggy beauty. (It’s not easy being green....)
That, though, isn’t likely.
Come September I think I’ll turn over a new leaf and actually start working at school. You and I have unfortunately been gifted with brains* and are therefore lazy. It’s a curse, but imagine the excellence of the works we could produce if we actually WORKED! Odious word. I’ll try working next year and if I manage to do any, I’ll tell you what it’s like.
*It always seemed to me that you worked harder than I ever thought of doing. At least your work was so good I thought you couldn’t possibly be as lazy as me. Of course, now I’m lazier than I was in my younger days. Now even writing poetry for English doesn’t inspire me.
Please write soon.
I think there’s a letter of mine lost somewhere in the mail. O well.
Love, Kathy
