Tehran <-> Washington, DC 1970-1973 teen girl blog
Back in 1970, Hilary and Kathy were 14 years old and best friends in Washington, DC. Then Kathy moved to Tehran. They wrote to each other pretty often--and kept the letters--for your pleasure as a proto-blog from the 70s. The letters start here.

Kathy to Hilary, March 21, 1973, Tehran, Iran
Dear Hilary, Here it is, New Year’s again. You’ve gotten so little mail from me that you must think that Now Ruz has come right after Christmas. This is my second New Year’s this year--isn’t that fun? I spent this one at Johnny’s house with a bunch of very rowdy and noisy Afghans visiting for the holiday from Kabul. It’s incredible the amount of noise 10 Afghans can make! They seem to have a wonderful time laughing and joking, and I am beginning to feel less out of place among them. I try to be polite but forget sometimes to say hello and goodbye to his parents and get reprimanded for it. Kathy, the rough and rude. I got home at 2 and had 4 hours of sleep so if my pen wanders off the page, you know why.
