Hilary to Kathy, April 3, 1973 cont., Arlington, VA (The Plot thickens….)
In January, Shauna decided that if Jon went to feminist films he couldn’t be all that bad. He is very nice and in her Math Functions class. So they got very CHUMMY. We went to a swimming meet to watch Jon swim (Swim! Jon, Swim! We cried!) He lost – but Shauna got an invitation for Both of Us (They’re calling us the Boobsy Twins….) to Jon’s party that evening. Well, in January I began taking self-defense lessons – kung fu karate to be exact – I had a lesson that night so I got Shauna to go w/someone else. I told her that I wouldn’t go anyway because there was NO ONE that I cared to see – and that while she & Jon were GETTING’ IT ON I would probably be stuck talking to Peter.
So… Shauna went, Jon was GETTING’ IT ON w/someone else so Shauna had to talk to peter. He wanted to know why I wasn’t there so Shauna got very nasty and said I didn’t want to see him etc. (It was true). Anyway, Lo and Behold! Shauna, upon talking to Peter, finds him FUNNY, INTELLIGENT, INTERESTING, ETC. So she went to watch HIM swimming the next week. He won & took her to a party at his sister’s college in D.C. and everything was great except that he never spoke to her again after that night.
Apparently Shauna was acting TOO CUTE TO BE TRUE – you know the kind, and it sickened poor Peter. But she still says he’s FUNNY, INTELLIGENT, INTERESTING. Now Jon, who is still a nice kid, says Peter has “The Hots” (crude term) for me - & has for a while. Which may be why he didn’t like Shauna? Anyway – Hilary – desperate soul, has renewed interest in Peter. But he is so put off by the complication of his relationship w/Shauna that he has yet to do anything. There! Rotten end to a ROTTEN story. We’re not even going to the same college. Always the optimist…. Hilary still has hope, mainly because there is no one else! It all goes to show that life is too fucked up to be worthwhile.
