Kathy to Hilary, July 25, 1973, Tehran, Iran July 25
So Johnny has left and here I am with my suitcase and bare walls and a pain in the ass where I sat on a nail clipper. Johnny and I spent the last two days together almost constantly. One thing I’ve learned in this past year and a quarter, and especially this summer, is that time passes much too quickly with people you love. I didn’t cry too much and I said “see you” as I stepped out of his car for the last time like I thought it would be the next day that I’d see him. I’ve been brave and busy and have even done some sightseeing--I went to see the Pahlavi crown jewels, which I never did manage to visit before! You’d have enjoyed them--and we’ll have to say hi to the Hope diamond while I’m in DC.
I can’t wait to see you and Peoples and Giant and the Smithsonian and Lorcum Lane and Fillmore and 24th street and 23rd road, and the trees that shade the road where we used to pop tar bubbles in the summer and where we walked on quiet snowy mornings.
Inshallah you shall see me less than 10 days from today!
Love,
Kathy
