Israeli Settlers Break Both Arms of 68 year old American Woman, Beat 74 year Old American Man.
How many U.S. papers will carry this headline tomorrow? American Jews need to face up to the fact that extremist settlers in Israel are acting like fascist thugs. Here is the above story, as reported in Haaretz. The crux of the argument against terrorism is that it singles out victims for their shock value, who have little or no personal connection to the political events the terrorists are reacting to. In this case, the settlers were angered by reports of the latest bombing in the West Bank, that killed 3 IDF soldiers. So they took their guns, and attacked a group of Palestinians and Western observers who were harvesting olives in a nearby family grove. Can anyone explain the moral distinction here between these actions, and the actions of the suicide bombers, except in degree and the fact that the suicide bombers are willing to give up their own lives.
