In a subsequent article about David Lloyd George and Britain's attitude toward Ireland, 1169 and Counting says
the British Government executed 24 Irish Republicans in the five years of conflict from late 1916 to 1921 ; but the new Fianna Fail regime in the Free State executed some 77 Irish Republicans in the six months from November 1922 to April 1923 . In fact, it was the Cumann na nGaedheal (later Fine Gael) government that executed 77 of their Republican former comrades during the Civil War. Not that Fianna Fail is off the hook -- after they decided to recognize Leinster House and eventually got elected on their Republican pedigree, De Valera's government executed plenty (5-10?) of their Republican former comrades during the 30s and 40s.
