…Of course I read Kristoff's piece on the various theories of "why gays are gay," and of course he failed to ask for my imput.
I have an unsolicited theory about why this is so in some instances, but it is so controversial and, possibly, twisted, that I think I'll leave it for now.
That said, I am far more interested in why a fair number of straight men hate gays. These particular haters are off the hook because society thinks they resent men who are not real men. "Methinks they (the haters) doth protest too much." Consciously or unconsciously, some young men may feel guilt because they practice the exact same sex acts. Only difference--they do it with a woman. But that doesn't stop deep-seated guilt from intruding--even in the after-glow of wild and unfettered sex--simply because a Bible-based society has insisted that certain acts of love are sinful. In fact, it was drilled into us even as kids and, I believe, some states still have laws on the books.
I don't care if the issue is sex or something else, when people decide something is a sin, and become enraged--even violent--you can be almost certain that the rage is, in part, directed at themselves.

Well, what about gay women, (hereafter referred to as Lesbians) you ask. O.K., women are different. Women, as a rule, are not violent, nor do they as often fly into unreasoning rages (often caused by the heavy drinking that women usually don't indulge in.) Women are conciliators and peacemakers. Women, in my opinion, are more accepting and forgiving. This includes forgiving themselves and other women for their so-called sexual sins. (You won't find bands of women out beating and killing Lesbians.) Men leave Lesbians in peace because they don't seem to mind women imitating men, and also because they think it's sexy. Many, many men, if closely questioned, would admit they'd be aroused seeing two women making love. And some wouldn't mind joining them. Not at all. Gee, watch some porno if you are that naïve.
Although this writer believes sexual preferences are in the genes, some gay women may turn to other women because they are actually afraid of the violence in men.
