... The president's penchant for giving staff and workers a nickname is seen by some as a "good old boy" characteristic. Proof that he is, after all, just one of the gang. The guy's aces with us, he gets our vote!
Others have thought it through. Anyone who can assign a nickname to you, but you can't answer in kind is more powerful than you. If the president says hello, and uses his nickname for you, could you, in return, say, "Hi, there, Georgie Porgie." I think not.
He's telling you that he's the Big Guy, and you're the Little Guy. You are lucky if he doesn't pat you on the head.

"I'm sick of waiting for Mr. Right. In the New Year,
I plan to shave my head, dye my body a spiritual green, and say
my "om's" one thousand times a day and screw sex...."

Memo to the Staff: John Ashcroft
We are happy for John, but saddened too. We shall miss his cheery face around the halls and in our files.
But John wants to spend more time with his family, and do some traveling, which he has sorely missed during the past few years. He also is an avid gardener, and misses getting his hands in the good earth and planting the bulbs that once brought forth his favorite flower--the Narcissus--each and every spring, until he was called to a higher duty in our Administration.
Good luck, John, and say hello to the "little woman."
Your buddy, George
