...The fine hand of this administration was in the early execution of Saddam Hussein. Oh, I’m sorry. I meant to write “the stupid, bungling hand” of the administration. How can one woman be so sloppy with words?
A week or so ago, we heard the dictator would be executed within thirty days and then, suddenly, it became a “matter of days” and then “within hours.” Why do you suppose it was moved up? And we were once again spoonfed info? My guess is the administration hoped to escalate the civil war, which would justify preparing for a “Surge” of our troops before the new Congress came in. A head start, so to speak, before more reasonable people were, perhaps, able to stop yet another crazed idea from crazed men. Oh, yes, most everyone knows Hussein was tried for one of his far less obscene crimes, and dispatched before anyone could raise the specter of our collaboration with the man in times past. Just another cute political move masterminded by men who arrogantly underestimate everyone on the planet. They just don't get it that we get it.
I am with adults everywhere who oppose execution, no matter how heinous the crimes. Also, we could have done ourselves some favors. 1. Shown the world that we honor human life, regardless of how unworthy it may be. 2. Or, if the act must be, allow the head of a sovereign nation the dignity of a firing squad. 3. Not hold the event in an American installation on Iraqi soil.
“Vengeance is mine,” saith the Lord. You could look it up, as Pearl de Monville would say.
