I've never heard of Arab News nor this reporter, so I'm going to apply some skepticism as to the comments made in this article. But I believe the premise is probably sound. That being that the U.S. props up corrupt regimes in a strategy that's akin to "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". Then down the road when we sever ties with the corrupt regime -- as we've done with Iraq -- we completely gloss over the fact that they were once our allies.
And this isn't necessarily even a partisan foible. I think both Republicans and Democrats have engaged in this kind of foreign policy. The reason that the U.S. is often so hated outside our borders is that our foreign policy doesn't mirror the ideals that we embrace at home.
