The Devil's Excrement

  The Devil's Excrement
Observations focused on the problems of an underdeveloped country, Venezuela, with some serendipity about the world (orchids, techs, science, investments, politics) at large. A famous Venezuelan, Juan Pablo Perez Alfonzo, referred to oil as the devil's excrement. For countries, easy wealth appears indeed to be the sure path to failure. Venezuela might be a clear example of that.

Palm Inc. reported its first quarter results and it shows why one should not just read the financial headlines. Here are three views on the results:

From SiliconValley.com:

Palm first quarter loss widens on slowing demand

From CNET News.com:

Palm's loss narrower than expected

From CBS MarketWatch:

Palm misses sales target

Sort of mixed from the headlines, but looks bad on the details.
