The Devil's Excrement

  The Devil's Excrement
Observations focused on the problems of an underdeveloped country, Venezuela, with some serendipity about the world (orchids, techs, science, investments, politics) at large. A famous Venezuelan, Juan Pablo Perez Alfonzo, referred to oil as the devil's excrement. For countries, easy wealth appears indeed to be the sure path to failure. Venezuela might be a clear example of that.

The opposition organized a night, candlelight demonstration/march, where people would converge from different places in the city before nightfall. As has become customary, the number of people was beyond all expecations. People actually had to stay in the adjacent highways because it was so crowded ( I actually felt uncomfortable at some point, it was crowded and people kept drifting in). To the left is the image of the crowd at the point of convergence and in the bottom part, what looks like a march, is actually what happened as people began drifting away later in the evening. It is amazing how people are willing to march, day in and day out, in huge numbers to protest/rebel agasint Hugo Chavez. How can anyone govern or expect to govern under these conditions?

Not a march, these are people leaving the demonstration
