The Devil's Excrement

  The Devil's Excrement
Observations focused on the problems of an underdeveloped country, Venezuela, with some serendipity about the world (orchids, techs, science, investments, politics) at large. A famous Venezuelan, Juan Pablo Perez Alfonzo, referred to oil as the devil's excrement. For countries, easy wealth appears indeed to be the sure path to failure. Venezuela might be a clear example of that.

Tonight the Minister of Interior and Justice comes out again with his fascist threats and invents a new law that does not allow citizens to gather outside voting centers, to await the count and sudit. Thus, in one stroke the electoral law that states that the vote counting is a public event is ignored by this new day thug. My friends, what would you call this? A thuggish elction? A totalitarian event? Saddam woudl be proud of them! Totalitarian democracy at work.

Meanwhile, General Miguel Ramirez of the National Guard warned that anyone that attempts to count the votes after the polls close will be arrested. ¨We are not going to allow anyone to go against the good flow of the voting process. The CNE has said that it is forbidden to open the ballot boxes (that were not chosen to be opened) and to do so is a crime. In that case, we will proceed according to what the laws and the Cosntitution says. Well, only in a totalitarian state can you be arrested for doing what the law says HAS to be done. I wonder what is the penalty for following the laws and the Constitution?

Goebbels would have been proud of them: The Chavista Government would make Goebbels proud. What they are arguing is that the counting of the votes is what the law says is a public act. Thus, these guys argue, it is the act of the machine printing the votes which is a public act.(I guess it is the machine that does the couting) But the opening of the ballot boxes aftewards is an "audit" not "counting" the votes and therefore is not a public act. This convinces me that these guys are ready to cheat again. Why the emphasis on this small detail? Why do they want people out of the ballot box opening and counting? Why twist the truth around like this? Why not count all of the votes like the law says. Get ready my friends, this "escrutinio" is fixed once again.
