I attended my first political function last week. Al Gore came to my town and my wife and I went to see him. Unfortunately, we brought our toddler and he proceeded to melt down just before Al arrived. So I drove them home and then back to the reception only to catch the very tail end of Gore's speech. He was encouraging the crowd to use the feelings generated by the Supreme Court's ruling in Bush v. Gore to keep them going when their get-out-the-vote efforts become discouraging. I was glad to see so many people who are not "over it".
I stuck around and shook his hand. I told him I had read his San Francisco speech and to Give 'em Hell. Apparently, Joan Walsh at Salon agrees.
His willingness to question this ignorant administration's policies amid a crowd of timid Democrats solidifies, in my mind, that he deserves the presidential nomination in 2004.
