In response to A Hypothetical Conversation, NZ Bear took me to task for not supplying hyperlinks to back up my claims. Fair enough. Since no one seemed to be reading (or at least commenting on) my blog, I got lazy.
Most of the information was taken from three sources:
Stephen Zunes, "The Case Against War", The Nation 9/30/02,
BuzzFlash Interview: William Rivers Pitt, Essayist and Author on his book the "War on Iraq" with Scott Ritter, 9/25/02,
Joe Conason, Why are we going to war in Iraq? salon.com, 9/20/02.
If you read these three items, you'll see most of my factual assertations corroberated, often by more than one source.
I've updated A Hypothetical Conversation to include the appropriate links at the points where the claims are made. I know that scrubbing previous posts is a no-no in the world of blogs, but my policy is: I'll never erase previous posts or a part of a post (I'm not Andrew Sullivan), and any corrections or additions will be in [brackets].
A couple of comments: (1) William Rivers Pitt's co-author Scott Ritter is a former UN weapons inspector and US Marine. He's no liberal: he votes Republican and blasted Clinton for taking the steps that led to the expulsion of inspectors in 1998. He's also blasting Bush. (2) I know I read the 400 mile missile range quote somewhere, but all I could find was Conason's reference to 650km, which is approximately the same.
