Senators Clinton, Daschle, Hagle, Feinstein and Kerry explain why they voted for the resolution granting Bush the power to wage war on Iraq. They say it is not a vote for unilateralism. They say it is not a vote for preemption. They say it is not an abdication of their Constitutional responsibilities. I hope they are right. And I'll grant them that they (hopefully) read the actual text of the resolution and I haven't. But the reports I've read describing it are not encouraging. And what will this or the next Congress do if Bush oversteps his bounds? Do any of these Senators have the courage and conviction of Senator Byrd to stand up to a thug in the White House?
Again, I hope so. But I would prefer some better indications.
