I really disagree with the Democrats political thoughts on the Iraq resolution From a story in the Washington Post: Democrats are pushing for a quick vote on the war resolution for political reasons, too. They want to shift the debate to sinking stock prices, deflated 401(k) retirement portfolios and corporate scandals. In a closed meeting of Senate Democrats Tuesday, some members raised concerns of a "regime change" in the Senate, where they hold a narrow majority, if the debate over Iraq drags out, participants said.
Once the war resolution passes, the debate is not going to switch away from Iraq. If anything, it will intensify Iraq as the media covers preparations for war. The only hope the Democrats have on shifting the focus back to domestic events is to table the war resolution. They have plenty of reasons - all 3 passed budget resolutions - to hold off voting on it until after the elections.
