Yet more on the truth and the Daily Howler I posted earlier about the Daily Howler's campaign to "prove" the journalists overstepped the line when they claimed Dubya lied in the State of the Union address about Iraq trying to acquire uranium from Africe. I recently built archives of prior months posts and while doing so, I came across an interesting Reuters story about the fake Niger documents:
The IAEA asked the US and Britain if they had any other evidence backing the claim that Iraq tried to buy uranium. The answer was no. So back in March when the pressure wasn't on, the US and Britain admitted that their only evidence were the frogeries. Once the pressure was on, the US and Britain said that had other evidence, but that they just couldn't share it with anyone. I think it is legitimate for a journalist to assume that the US and Britain told the truth the first time.
