Labor Force Participation What I find interesting about this chart is how the decline since Dubya took over is against historical trends. Here is a longer term chart: You can see that labor force participation increased sharply during the Carter administration, rose steadily through the last 6 years of the Reagan administration, and then hits a peak of 66.8% in 1/90.  It declines from there slightly through the rest of the Bush administration, then rises slightly but steadily through the Clinton administration.  Labor Force Participation has fallen 1.2% since its peak in 4/00.  During the '92 recession, it fell only 0.8% and in the '81 recession, it fell only 0.8%. 6:28:16 AM    comment []

Waxman asks Rice some tough questions! The ranking Democrat on the House Committee on Government Reform sent Condi Rice a letter full of tough questions.  It is full of the contradictions between what Rice said at various times and what CIS director Tenet and her assistant Hadley have said.  Because Waxman is so exact, the letter is too long to quote.  Go read it. Well the media demand that Rice respond?  She didn't respond to Waxman's June 10th letter.  I would think it is in the media's interest to demand that she respond, because her response will probably create new contradictions in a high-profile incident.  I am not sure what Waxman's alternatives are if she doesn't respond as he can't hold any hearings without Republican help, and Republicans don't help Democrats in the House.
