Whereas the week of April 21, 2003 has been designated as the final week of preparation for the launch of the International World Trade Center Site Memorial Competition, herewith to be known as “Hellweek”;

Whereas last night’s dinner consisted of boiled asparagus, the skankiest London broil the author ever saw, and Sauce Colbert, a béarnaise sauce with meat glaze – the meat glaze I’d been working on for three days, which I was still working on last night and had not the time to make set into a jelly properly ought – stirred in, which I fucked up by following the master recipe for hollandaise and stirring in a tablespoon of lemon juice when I ought to have stirred in the wine vinegar and vermouth boiled down with chopped green onions and tarragon, and then had to go and stir that in too, and besides the sauce didn’t really get thick enough even before I added too much vinegar, so it wasn’t any good at all, and I’d rather not talk about it anymore;

Whereas the author has other stuff to write, stuff that has nothing to do with cooking and Julia, or stuff that does, it’s none of your goddamned business;

Whereas too much red wine was drunk last night, and the author is feeling grumpy;

It is hereby resolved that this posting will cease and desist forthwith.

More cooking, less whining after Hellweek is done.  I swear.
