Republican congressional leaders came up with an excellent idea yesterday, declassifying testimony from Richard A. Clarke given to the 2002 House-Senate Intelligence Panel investigating the events surrounding the 911 attacks. We salute Senator Frist and the other brave legislators backing this approach. Realizing full well that they would never bring partisan politics in to play on an issue that is of such concern to all Americans, I am certain that they would support the following proposal:
Declassify the entire report.
Not just a few pages that may favor the current administration. Declassify the entire thing. Every page. Let the chips fall where they may.
"We need to lean forward in making as much information available to the public as possible, without compromising the national security interests of the nation," says Dennis Hastert, and we concur. But forget the national security part - that concerns old, failed policies which we are certain have been corrected. Release Rice's testimony to the current committee. Demand public testimony from the president.
Release everything. |
