| Judge Proves to be 'Half a
Twit' New York Judge Roberto
Gigante has won the prestigious Lance Ito award for embarrassing comments
beyond the call of duty made while sitting on the bench.
Gigante is presiding over the case of
doctor Gil Lederman, the physician who embarrassed colleagues around the
world when he asked former Beatle George Harrison to autograph a guitar for
his son while Harrison was on his death bed. Lederman had filed for a change
of venue, claiming that the charge was so embarrassing that he could not get
a fair trial in New York.
Gigante agreed, but not before one-upping
Lederman by putting his ruling in a statement embarrassing enough that
experts agree that further attempts at humor are unnecessary in this piece.
To wit:
"Something in the folks he treats
Attracts bad press like no other doctor
He's in our jurisdiction now
He gets Beatle autographs somehow
And all I have to do is move this trial
Somewhere they don't know George Harrison
If this case I were to keep
Defendant would gently weep."
