| Reverend Bob Dobbson Clarifies Remarks

:What I said and what you heard are two separate but equal
things."
Reverend Bob Dobbson, chairman of the evangelical 'Focus
on the Family' action group, and son of Reverend Bob Dobbs, founder of the
Church of the SubGenius, yesterday
clarified remarks he had made about Supreme Court Nominee Harriet Miers.
Several days ago, Dobbson had said on his 'Hour of Slack' radio show that
"When you know some of the things I know - that I probably shouldn't know,
that would take me in this direction - you would understand why I have
said, with fear and trepidation, that I believe Harriet Miers will be a
good justice." Dobbson claimed to have been given a confidential thumbs up
on Miers by Bush administration architect Karl Rove.
Much to Dobbson's feigned surprise, many people
(including actual politicians) took him at his word, and asked the
question "Just what is it that you know that you're not supposed to know."
"Well, I don't know much that's really, really secret,"
Dobbs explained yesterday on his show. "Really, I don't. Okay, maybe this
- Harriet Miers only shaves her legs up to her knees. Hey, I wanted to
keep it secret, but people were starting to question my credibility. So go
ahead, if you don't believe me. Ask her to pull up her skirt."
"Karl Rove didn't tell me anything about the way Harriet
Miers might vote on cases that may come before the Supreme Court,” Dobbson
remarked. “Heavens no. And we absolutely did not discuss Roe v. Wade in
any context, form or manner. I mean, how could you even bring up such a
topic with a lady? As much as it means to President Bush, even he couldn't
bring himself to askher , and I have it on good authority - well, Karl -
that she would tell him absolutely anything."
"What I know is what you know - public knowledge. She's
a member of the Church of the SubGenius in good standing, she likes
donuts, and she strongly believes in the power of slack." |
