Chicken Abuse Alleged in 'War on Flu'

This chicken appears to have been pummeled into unconsciousness

The Bush administration today issued a statement saying that it had 'no knowledge' of chickens being tortured in an effort to obtain intelligence about the spread of Avian Flu. The denials came just hours after the New York Times published a series of disturbing photographs which purportedly show captive chickens being beaten by active duty members of the Center for Disease Control.

At this mornings press briefing, White House spokesman Scott McClellan denied that the pictures were of real chickens, stating that in the photographs he had seen, they look more like sock puppets. "There can be no credible malice directed towards a sock puppet," McClellan stated emphatically. "And even if there are certain liberal elements who would decry this administrations treatment of these harmless toys, they might be better off asking themselves exactly what the former president did with his."

It's election day here in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and time for me to head out to the voting booth. I thought I was going to be voting for Tim Kaine for governor, but something happened last night which has given me pause. Jerry Kilgore may be the man of the hour.

The president of the United States returned from his "Successful trip to South America" (thanks for that spot on piece of analysis, Jerry), and flew directly into Richmond International Airport, where he delivered a somewhat rousing endorsement of Kilgore.

"The thing I like about this fella is he's from Virginia and he grew up on a farm," Bush proclaimed. "That means he's a down-to-earth person. He doesn't have a lot of fancy airs, a person who knows how the common man thinks."

Wow. Jerry Kilgore grew up on a farm. That is like so organic. I don't know, I've still got a little time to research, but I'm willing to bet that Tim Kaine didn't grow up on a farm. No, he probably grew up in one of those urban areas with their stop lights and Burger Kings, so he doesn't have that common, down-to-earth touch that a fella gets from growing up around cows.

It's going to be a tough decision. God knows I don't need those fancy airs.
