WASHINGTON (Royters) - Conservative U.S. evangelist Pat Robertson,
who called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez,
said on Wednesday he was misinterpreted and there were a number of ways
to "take him out" including kidnapping.
"I said our special forces could take him out. 'Take him out'
could mean a number of things including take him out to a ball game or
take him out to dinner at Denny's," Robertson said on his "The 700 Club"
television program. "Now I grant you that a meal at Denny's could kill
him, but isn't that a risk we all take? Should this hi-falutin'
dictator get better food than regular Americans who love God? I think
not."
"There are a number of ways of taking out a dictator from power
besides killing him. I was misinterpreted," Robertson added. "And when
I said that we should shoot him with a big gun until his blood spurts
from twenty holes and his brains litter the floor, what I meant was, I'm
an evil, hate filled man who hides behind Jesus like a sniper with a
hostage. And if you don't shut up about it, you're next. That's right,
I'm just like Jesus, cross me and you die."
ps. from Sandy U : plans for the Pat Robertson
gravesite were nearly complete until this latest eruption kind of threw
a wrench in the works. due to tremendously increased interest and many
generous contributions we have increased the grave depth from 6 feet to
600 and we will be doubling the size of the dance floor.
