Ed's difficulty

Now and then, I have an editorial difficulty. Traditionally, an editor is meant to affect an air of infallibility. But then again, traditionally, the editor and writer would be paid for their work.

Tradition is not something we are huge on at tuppenceworth.ie.

So, behind the veil of grave wisdom here are the two items which have been nagging at me.

Firstly, I got a sequence of articles from a young writer excited by the potential of words, but who had read Hunter S Thompson and decided that that was the beginning and end of all writing.

I asked him to look at the his work, and try to broaden it out, or not let his style get in the way of communicating. And he responded with a challenge. Was I down with the underground?, he wanted to know, Or was I not?

And, in the end the answer was that I was not.

And my second difficulty has taken on the shape of an article about hunting and guns in the US.

As its late, I'll deal with that one tomorrow.
