What an interesting day. I had our first meeting with the law school's Jessup moot team to give some pointers on international legal research. It should be fun working working with this team.

I'm in the middle of preparing my presentation for Friday's Minnesota IUG Conference. IUG stands for "Innovative Users Group" - for customers of Innovative Interfaces library system software.

I'm talking about create lists - a pretty powerful tool for searching and making reports of the library's database.

This is one of those things which must seem very obscure - but is quite important to people who work with it on a dailty basis.

It's weird to be in a profession - which I feel - many people just don't get . This can lead to the profession not being valued. It''s also strange how there are different layers of obscurity within the library profession. As a reference and web librarian, I'm mostly on the public side of the profession. But I also do some work with the library system - which borders the realm of the technical services librarians. There you find the arcane worlds of cataloging, serials and acquisitions - sub-specialties which many reference librarians (& administrators) don't understand - let alone the general public.

Since I've been doing this systems librarian work, I've learned more about technical services librarianship. Now I hear that on Friday, 50-80 people will be listening me to talk about create lists. It's a bit daunting, especially since I'm guessing that most of the audience will be technical services library staff.

I'll manage because I'm going to be talking about stuff which should be new and interesting for them - hopefully.
