Leafing through the catalog that came with the Lehman's shipment, I ran across this nutcracker. Wow! A few years ago, someone gave me a Carolina Cracker (which is nothing like a Georgia Cracker - whoa! using that word is a hate crime in Florida!) and I thought it was the best. Those derned Amish, undermining my sense of materialistic superiority again!
7 loud snaps from the kitchen - all the Scuppernong Blush Jelly jars sealed. Now the wait to see if it sets.

Cleanup time today - 12 pints of suspect apple butter from 5 years ago emptied and cleaned. Likewise, some pickles from the same era. Nicholas Appert's stuff from 1809 supposedly still would be good, but if my stuff isn't used in 5 years I throw it out. I made a lot of stuff in the initial enthusiasm for the process itself, without mush thought that I was making stuff I never ate. Consequently, a lot was given away and a lot just took up space. Now the space is needed, if not for newer canned goods that I do eat, then for appliances that are beginning to take up a substantial amount of closet space. I probably have the only biltong box in North Carolina, for example.
The apple butter was not very good anyway, but the pickles were still crisp. Oh well. The jars all came out sparkling in the dishwasher and will be used again. As for the Scuppernong Blush Jelly, I gave up on it too. I'm recooking it in hopes it will set this time.
My cable modem stopped working again early this morning. I thought sure that RoadRunner was to blame, but evidently it was a net firewall problem. A few minutes with the local technician and I was back online.
