pssst..wanna get some really cheaped-assed blog hits? Use this secret word, the duck will come down when the full moon rises. Is it, I wonder, like "Yahweh" or that other guy, the one with the pointy tail, evil whose name we dare not speak? You decide...but please use it in a complete sentence...e.g., "cool as an '___' _____ in a burning ring of fire".

Mushroom kit is now on day 24. Their growth might have been stunted a bit when I opened up the box and followed the instruction "At this stage mist the surface heavily." Later on, they say "Do not over water". Did a lawyer write this tutorial? A Jewish mother? No matter what you do, there's advice to back up the idea that you're at fault. Anyway, like all living things, the mushrooms recovered nicely once they were given another chance to grow. I opened up the box to allow moisture to escape, but covered it loosely with a white trash bag so it couldn't escape too quickly. I opened it to check again tonight. The growth looks robust (it's still just strands) and has grown back into the areas possibly blighted by too heavy a mist a few days ago.

My friend Art taught this - unwrapping a new CD:

  1. Remove plastic wrap
  2. Crack open the jewel case slightly at the bottom
  3. Loosed the hinge at the bottom of the jewel case insert
  4. Fold case open so that sticky label with the UPC is in the middle
  5. Sticky label can now be easily removedby pulling the sections of the jewel case apart
  6. Re-assemble jewel case

The CD that arrived today was Graham Nash, Songs For Survivors. One (really two) that didn't arrive was Osvaldo Golijov (Composer), et al Pasion Segun San Marcos. Amazon gave up trying to find it, but they didn't change the billing on my Super Saver shipment. Still free! I'll keep an eye out for the Golijov.

The turkey preempted my "cranberry something" today, but 3 bags full are in my pantry. This recipe that Rayne posted a while back looks like the answer: Cranberry-Apple Crisp with Oatmeal Streusel Topping!

Let 'em eat lobster bisque: BBC reports that NYC is considering housing the homeless in retired cruise ships:

City officials, including Mayor Michael Bloomberg's commissioner of homeless services, have flown to the Bahamas to inspect disused ships.

Meanwhile, reports ABC News, cruise ships are carrying more than upscale vacationeers:

“They had temperatures of … 101 Fahrenheit and higher, and that worried us because we knew it was something relatively serious,” Libman says.
