Dean Martin as a Weapon of Mass Distraction
So ends Season 4 of The Sopranos. Dean, of course, is the greatest musical genius of the entire 20th century. probably of all time. That goes without saying. but it still needs to be said sometimes.

If you think you have a cast iron stomach, read about Jeffrey Steingarten in the NYT. Here is a small insight into the palate and mind of The Man Who Ate Everything:
In the ensuing silence, Mr. Steingarten determined he was in need of a drink. So, at 11:30 he opened a $400 bottle of '89 Louis Latour Montrachet..."I'm afraid it's corked," he said sadly. "Montrachet is so good and this is so not good." He sighed deeply. "It just shows, Gather ye rosebuds"

Giant White Corn!
Discovered with the dozens of varieties of Goya dried beans in the Mexican food section of Food Lion. Each kernel is about the size of a nickel. You soak them just like beans. There is a recipe on the package for Giant White Corn and Pork Stew, which calls for garden variety stew vegetables and "1 package Sazon Goya with Cilantro and Achiote". The Goya line of bouillon is excellent, especially the ham bouillon. The giant corn smells like a tortilla when it cooks. Think I'll make a corn chowder to celebrate having electricity back.

Before the Beatles, there were the Everly Brothers, Don & Phil.
Along came a war, then the Berrigan Brothers, Dan & Phil.
We were complacent and we let the war happen. The bravery of these two pioneers enabled countless thousands of silenced voices to speak. It wasn't easy to be right, it never has been. In a single lifetime, Phillip Berrigan spent more years in jail than the combined time served by the Iran-Contra defendants, more than the connected Enron-style executives of the present ever will.
It's probably not an easy decision to terminate chemotherapy. In my coddled world, I sometimes make the analogy to the victims who leaped on 9/11 when faced with death by fire. Phillip Berrigan was a man who made the tough decisions effortlessly. That's what a conscience does.
