War is Peace
Palestinian rocket attack on Sderot avenges deaths of 11 Israelis in Gaza City, which had avenged the tragic deaths of two policemen ambushed by Palestinians as they made a routine traffic check. The driver of the assault car had his mother viciously shot down as she picked olives in the back yard, no one knows who did that, but I personally suspect another mother whose children were blown up in a schools bus by Hamas, which they did in retaliation for an Apache helicopter attack which leveled their homes before the bulldozers could arrive to do it the next day.
The reason they couldn't wait for the bulldozers is that the squadron commander was acting on direct orders from Sharon, who had no family members mindlessly slaughtered, but was facing a tough election despite the eager willingness of any competition to self-destruct as mindlessly as the suicide bombers, who enter public places strapped with explosives to kill as many Jews as possible.
They are willing to die because they have been placed in virtual detention camps so that as many Jews as possible, who basically want to keep living, can keep an eye on them and, incidentally, shoot them like fish in a barrel.
This has been going on a very long, long time. It will probably always continue, unless one side or the other crosses some horrific line and commits an atrocity so generically disgusting that even tone-deaf policy mavens can no longer tune or drown out the universal outcry. After the initial spin-techniques fail, two equally-likely responses are inevitable: (1) a return to sanity or (2) an even more mind-numbing atrocity.
Some people wonder who might want to live in such a place, given an alternative like, say, Beirut, where political violence has subsided dramatically since Sharon went home, walked on the Temple Mount, and became Prime Minister of Israel. That is why one world leader called him "a man of peace", because, wherever he goes, peace resumes quickly soon after he leaves. So is Arafat a "man of peace", after all, like Henry Kissinger before him, he did win a Nobel.
