The sky is falling.

8:52 All clear

Madrigal

Joyous hour, we give thee greeting!
Whither, whither art thou fleeting?
Fickle moment, prithee stay!
Fickle moment, prithee stay!

(...)

(Ending in tears.)

With Aspect Stern And Gloomy Stride..

We do not heed their dismal sound,
For joy reigns everywhere around!
We do not heed their dismal sound,
For joy reigns everywhere around!

I am so proud,
If I allowed
My family pride
To be my guide,
I'd volunteer
To quit this sphere,
Instead of you,
In a minute or two.
But family pride
Must be denied,
And set aside,
And mortified,
And mortified.

(...)

A dull, dark dock,
A life-long lock,
A short, sharp shock,
A big black block!
To sit in solemn silence
In a pestilential prison,
And awaiting the sensation
From a cheap and chippy chopper on a big black block!

Three little maids who, all unwary,
Come from a ladies' seminary,
Freed from its genius tutelary--
Three little maids from school!
Three little maids from school!

Behold the Lord High Executioner!
A personage of noble rank and title--
A dignified and potent officer,
Whose functions are particularly vital!
Defer, defer,
To the Lord High Executioner!
Defer, defer,
To the noble Lord, to the noble Lord,
The Lord High Executioner!

7:59 - alarm sounds. Turn off radio & TV, listen to The Mikado, a source of innocent merriment, of innocent merriment.

Cannellini with Pork Neck Bone probably sounds like Southern Neanderthal gruel. Again done with a time-shifting assist from the pressure cooker, from bag to table in 45 minutes.

Egged on by promises of Friskies Ocean Whitefish & Tuna Treats, Twyla finally relents and does her impression of Francisco Goya's La Maja Desnuda.

A picture named janet_playing.jpgThe carnage continues at Pesky The Rat as bloggers who didn't heed the dire warning to update their liinks are becoming dinner for Janet The Snake!

I offered myself as a human shield, but it did not appease her ravenous appetite, because then she ate The Raven! Fortunately, he smuggled in a bottle of Wild Turkey so we didn't have to sit around like two bumps on a log waiting for time to, well, pass.

I don't recommend the experience, however, and I'm gonna check all my links this weekend to make sure they're current, following the recent blogger migration. Meanwhile, Raven and I are discussing the nearly mythical strictness of English Teachers and exchanging ghost stories in the darkness within.

Happy Birthday, Kiki Dee! No 0.5 hit wonder she – Take a look at her CV:

KIKI DEE: Biography

Related Genres: Rock

Kiki Dee kicked around Britain as a white soul singer for the better part of the late '60s and early '70s -- even becoming the first British Caucasian signed to Motown -- before hooking up with Elton John, who signed her to his Rocket Records label and produced her first notable hit, "I've Got the Music in Me." In 1976, at which time John was the biggest pop star in the world, he wrote and duetted with Dee on the single "Don't Go Breaking My Heart," which promptly topped the charts all over the world. It did not, however, make Dee a long-term star, though she scored a couple of subsequent hits in England and turned to the stage with some success, especially by starring in +Blood Brothers in the West End. In 1993, she and John recorded another duet, on Cole Porter's "True Love" (previously recorded as a duet by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly). ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide

That’s from Artists Direct (which, BTW, was the only place I could find A3’s original CD with Woke Up This Morning, opening theme for The Sopranos – they included a free T-shirt with my order!). The New York Times On This Day page, however, has uncovered the obscure fact that she worked with Pink Floyd!

That was troubling and I wasted a few minutes investigating 1,160 “Kiki Dee” “Pink Floyd”  Googles until I went back to the NYT page and found this:

Aha! It’s just a screw-up! Happy Birthday, David Gilmour!
