For some reason, these times remind me of late 1965, when I was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX. There was a long corridor that led to the mess hall, where lines of soldiers could wait indoors. There were newspaper vending machines just before the entrance to the mess hall proper. One day, the headline screamed YANKS BEAT OFF VIET CONG.

The Camel's Back

I've just filled my fourth closet to the hilt with cooking appliances. The last straw was the Euro-Pro professional 5-liter stainless steel fryer. Last week, Liz was over and I deep-fried another artichoke in olive oil. I picked up the empty T-fal fryer with one hand on the lid and the hinge broke off. Cheap-assed overpriced piece of shit! I vowed to pitch it. Yesterday, as we shopped at BJ's, I spotted the Euro-Pro and bought it for $60. Today we baptised it with fish and chips. It is a joy to use and easy to clean. The T-fal is in the dumpster and deserves to be an outcast even there. Cheap-assed overpriced piece of shit!

My apologies to John Kerry for the silly caption to his picture, this man has the balls we need to rescue our country from the repressive gang of idiots now running it (right into the ground). More, more, they can't silence us all. At last there is a hint of leadership in the Dems! I'm tired of feeling deserted.

CongratulationS, Progress is an illusion, you've cracked the code and got updated! Radio Free Blogistan followed shortly thereafter, complaining about the fritz, RFB's sister  Metablog also got updated, as did brother salonika. None of these are URLed from blogs.salon.com, however.

Something very disturbing: This morning my computer had "spontaneously" opened 7 instances of Internet Explorer. All were opened to my Salon Blog homepage and each had a jpeg from a directory on my hard drive named "Pre-Upstream", which is where I leave edited pictures before moving them to my upstream directory. Either my cats have learned to copy photos from one directory to another or something sinister happened. None of the pictures were posted to my blog, so no real harm was done. This all happened as the server was going nutso.

Eine Kleine Nachtmusik

Looking above at the canvas canopy, he was surprised when she pressed herself against him.

The cot was not designed for this sort of activity and the walls of the tent had been raised, exposing all.. Crowds ambulated outside, taking care to avoid the ropes that stretched the makeshift shelter into structure on the midway.

Some fair-goers passed through the tent itself to avoid the crowd, a few with the aid of walkers or wheelchairs, as the calliope sounds of the merry-go-round and the aroma of deep-fried sweetness embraced the night air. A gray-haired crumpled woman brushed against the cot, but was guided aright by the sure hands of her daughter. A cherubic adolescent, a grandchild perhaps, orbited them, delightfully consuming fistfuls of pink cotton candy.

“We cannot make love here,” he said.

A moment passed, then she whispered, “Yes, we can.”

White bread: $50 million to investigate a blowjob, but only $3 million for 9/11. Read more about your Republican congress priorities at Joe's place.

Friday morning on NPR, I heard that China mysteriously cut off the flow of oil to North Korea recently. Since they provide 80% of Noth Korea's oil and nearly all their food, this could be a major factor in the recent uncharacteristic silence of Kim Jong Il. China denies doing it deliberately and turned the taps back on after 3 days, but a message was surely delivered. Having survived a few millennia of civilization, the Chinese understand The Art of War. "Speak softly and carry a big stick," not swagger and blather before proceeding to club a random victim senseless to make an example. With increased political clout and an economy that's bucking the worldwide trend towards depression, China appears poised to take the world leadership role the US claimed in the early 20th century as the colonial powers consumed their future in senseless wars and isolationist economic policies. The role of the usurper is one of stealth. Our jingistic media abet them with their intense focus on Iraq.

All my clocks except the one on my new stove "sprung forward" of their own accord. How covenient!

Soda bread: I'll make a  sandwich of this post, a slice of Joe atop and a slice of Maureen beneath. It is amazing how violently one can disagree with the thoughts of a person (myself, not Ms. Dowd) and still respect them. A distinguished eulogy to Michael Kelly. I think I could have been his friend too.
