A picture named old lamp new lamp.jpg

Old lamp shorted out
Food in my freezer melted

New lamp base with old lamp shade,
One selected for its bordello soul

Atop new composite lamp
Rooster still crows

Goodbye old lamp base

One more pair of speaker wires to run. The good news is that I bought another DTS audio DVD. That has reduced the average cost of each, including new equipment, by 50%. There second DTS is beethoven/barenboim. If you've seen Hilary and Jackie, you know what a dork Daniel Barenboim is. If you haven't seen it, rent it and see it, so you'll know what a dork Daniel Barenboim is. He is still an excellent conductor and symphonies 4 & 5 are two favorites. Most of the stuff available in this format is stuff you already have, including Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon. Nothing for those with acquired tastes, like for the music of Carlo Gesualdo. Time to run the last wires and mount the two last speakers. This is more work than I anticipated.

Chunga’s Revenge

Just got a note from an old friend. She says Zappa came back from the grave to “get” me when I bought that DVD-Audio Halloween disc. Latest complication is the sheer amount of speaker wire needed to reach 4 rear speakers. I thought 100 feet was enough. It is not. It took 32 feet for one speaker and that’s a side speaker - up from the floor, then strung along the wall at ceiling level with data cable staples (normally used for CAT-% cable). The speaker itself will only be at most 15 feet from the receiver, as the crow flies (do you have that problem in your house too?). Looks like I’ll have $50 invested in wire by the time “the needle drops.” The speaker brackets require a 5/16” bit for the screw anchors and the largest I have is ¼”, so that means a stop at Lowes’ for hardware. The combined cost for the speakers and brackets was $180. The receiver with adequate digital inputs (optical + coax) and the ability to switch 4 video inputs to the monitor will be another $400. A new DVD player at $150 (capable of playing DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW) will complete the minimum requirements for the new system.

There will still be examples to follow and example to avoid. This, for example, is a post just for the sake of posting.
