Odd. They were able to find Laci Peterson's body in California which, according to Donald Rumsfeld is about the same size as Iraq ("I think the answers are several reasons. And number one it's not because they're not there," saying Iraq is a large country, about the size of California, that there are hundreds of sites to search and that Saddam hid his weapons). Maybe it's time to call up Eric Estrada & The Other Guy from CHiPs. Or maybe one of those Ramparts guys.

A Tale Of Two Dog Movies

I won't attempt to elevate this crappy weblog with sycophantic comments about today's installment in the routinely brilliant work of a master, but one of the minor consolations of these increasingly dark days has been the emergence of The Krug Man for those of us disenfrancised by the state-controlled media. He's always gonna take some flack from the MurdochBoys, to be sure, but his own rage is eloquent and self-controlled. It's a shot of aquavit and strains of soft Sibelius in this Arctic winter of discontent.

In case you haven't bookmarked TomPaine.com, this article by Richard Blow (former executive editor of George Magazine) which analyzes an article by Matt Labash at The Weekly Standard ought to be adequate incentive. Blow marvels at a statement made by Labash that is remarkably candid:

Conservative news organizations are popular, he admitted, "because they feed the rage. We bring the pain to the liberal media. I say that mockingly, but it's true somewhat.... While these hand-wringing Freedom Forum types talk about objectivity, the conservative media likes to rap the liberal media on the knuckles for not being objective. We've created this cottage industry in which it pays to be un-objective.... It's a great way to have your cake and eat it too. Criticize other people for not being objective. Be as subjective as you want. It's a great little racket."

Blow dissembles and Fisks each of the statements I bold-faced, journalistic tricks generally employed by neo-con hacks, but avoids the exploitive pitfalls normally associated with them since none of these statements can be shown to be out of context.

The irony here is that the Standard and, say, The Washington Times, where this cottage industry flourishes are foreign-owned. That's right, the writers who infect the airwaves and newstands with talking points that have marked you as "unpatriotic" are in the employ of those "great Americans" Rupert Murdoch and Rev. Sun Myung Moon.

Not to cast a xenophobic pall over all the fun they're having, it's  now a confessed racket and these guys are just laughing on the way to the bank. My complaint is that the agenda being promoted are distinctly undemocratic. As the FCC ponders giving them even more control, you can expect to hear even more of the propaganda that causes fools to wave their flags as they lose their jobs and watch the American dream sink like the Exxon Valdez. It's a great little racket!
