Liz saves the day! When I tried to post yesterday from two email addresses, neither "took." For once, the fault was not with Radio Userland; it was at my house. Apparently there was a power outage of sufficient duration to exhaust the battery in the UPS and my system shut down. Complicating matters, the halogen light in the computer room had burned out, so Liz had to restart the computer in semi-darkness. The KVM switch had defaulted to "Computer 1," which does not exist, so I asked her to toggle that to "computer 4," which does, and the display came on. I have Radio in the startup group, so it was a piece of cake from there. I also had allowed AOL Instant Messenger to remain in startup, so if anyone saw me online there and I didn't answer messages, please forgive. When I got back to the hotel, I logged onto AIM and I hope that logged me out on the home computer. Thanks, Liz! - and Claudette and Twyla say "Thanks for the food" as well.
Julio and I went to a Mexican restaurant called Su Casa after work last night. The food was okay, but not great. He said that a Mexican beer simply named "Lager" is his favorite and that a tequila named "Patron" (on the drink list, but we didn't indulge) was his favorite tequila. He also mention that they have lemon with chiccarones and a type of salsa called "Torito." Useful information for when I fry up the next batch.
We're working 9am to 4pm today and then catching the last flight to Raleigh, so this is likely my last post from Chicago. I did walk over to Portillo's yesterday and had a garbage hot dog with a root beer. Even though this place is rated #1 for Chicago hot dogs, my preference was Hot Diggity Dog. The beef was simply more flavorful. Both came with a large spear of kosher pickle embedded, so I didn't get to see one with cucumber. Maybe there will be a stand at the airport, where they undoubtedly will charge twice as much. Next time I come to Chicago, it will be a food trip and I'll bring Liz along. I'd especially like to try the Weber Grill restaurant that is just up the street from here, as well as all the other places suggested in Comments to my occasionally coherent posts from here. Adios for now!
