Day 23: Cheap Mushrooms In A Vacuum

The portabellas ain’t lookin’ too hot, but I’ve sautéed worse. The shiitake look better than some I’ve seen in produce bins. No point in extending this exercise, it’s high time to fry ‘em up.

Kerry Fires Self As Kerry Campaign Candidate

BOSTON (API) Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts has fired himself as a candidate as he struggles to deal with continuing turmoil in his campaign and the perception among many Democrats that he had fallen from a once-dominant position in the Democratic presidential contest.

Senator Kerry met with himself and his former campaign manager, Jim Jordan, on Monday night in Boston to inform them of his decision. He replaced himself with “The Falcon,” a former imaginary playmate with superpowers, including the ability to become Irish or Jewish at the drop of a bagel

"I have decided to make a change at the very top of my campaign leadership," The Falcon said in an announcement that was sent by e-mail early this morning.

"From the bottom of my heart, I thank John Kerry for the leadership, extremely hard work and unsurpassed loyalty and devotion to me, to this campaign, and to the people who have worked with him," The Falcon said.

The Falcon said he had offered Mr. Kerry an opportunity to stay on in the campaign as a senior adviser. A person close to Mr. Kerry said he had not decided whether to accept the offer.

Mr. Kerry declined comment today.
