This is a secret Roomba cleaning tool. I haven’t figured out all its mysteries yet, it’s a Swiss Army Knife. It resembles a fish. The comb like part gets stuff out of the brushes. I don’t know what the two eyeballs do, but there’s a sharp blade beneath the dorsal fin that cuts rug fiber out of the brushes. That metallic tail lifts the clips that secure the brushes when you want to remove them for cleaning.
A couple of these came in the mail today. One was for buying a Roomba in the first place and registering it online; the other was because I filled out a survey. Having two of them makes me feel superior to anyone who only has one, or none at all. Some people don’t have Roombas; other don’t have carpets, just dirt floors. Most people have a floor of some sort or they would plummet to the core of the Earth.

Christopher Key is working on a Poetry Reclamation Project and I hope he gets it back. His poetry has a voice in my head, maybe a picture too. After I was a Bobby Darin fan, I was a Lawrence Ferlinghetti fan and the coolest thing we had on TV those days was The Steve Allen Show. Steve was moderate and low key, but he’d still have guys like Jack Kerouac on the show and they’d chat while Steve played cool rifts on the piano and Jack would muse.
That voice of Kerouac is the one that reads Christopher Key’s poetry to me, but the picture is not good. That’s because the reception wasn’t always the best in those pre-cable days for a station 50 miles away. Black and white was all we had and we were thankful when it wasn’t snowy.
Sometimes the vertical hold would quit holding and the picture would cycle up or down, but even then we dismissed that as a cliché. The really strange one was when the horizontal hold got fucked up because then the picture would gradually skew off to the right. The top of the picture would be okay, but it would be bent and unrecognizable by the time you got to the bottom of the screen. Because I hear Kerouac’s voice with Christopher’s poetry (and that’s a good thing) I also get the B&W picture of Steve and Jack and the horizontal hold is fucked up. That’s not a critical comment at all, it’s just an unfortunate coincidence, something that can't be helped.

Self Indulgence
Michael Parker recommended Mario Frangoulis a couple of weeks ago and sold me immediately. Last night, after a respectful delay (like the period widows wear black), my copy of Sometimes I Dream arrived. UPS unintentionally heightened the tension by leaving a delivery attempt notice on my door Thursday night after I had gone to bed. I signed it and taped it to my door Friday morning, but when I came home it was still there. Damn, those pour souls must be busy because when I last checked about 10pm the package wasn’t there, but at 3am it was.
I can’t listen to it until Liz comes over because she’s the tenor aficionado and would never forgive me for starting without her. But I did get an old favorite, Two Of A Kind, with Bobby Darin and lyricist legend Johnny Mercer singing such classics as I Ain’t Gonna Give Nobody None Of My Jellyroll and Who Takes Care Of The Caretaker’s Daughter. This is the shit I was listening to while all my peers were listening to Elvis. I also got a DVD of Darin’s NBC concert special Mack Is Back. I can play those anytime.
