The Eyes Have It
My first worry was, I hope runswithscissors is okay. He is, because he sleeps late. He is also maintaining a commentary on his blog using the gifted eyes and ears of an artist to record the palpable pain he and other citizens of Madrid feel at this tragic moment. Already, 3/11 is being called the Spanish 9/11.
Thanks to Jan at Secular Blasphemy for providing the link to caspa.tv and this emotional image by another artist, Forges at El Pais. There is also a link at Jan’s site to Boing Boing, where Xeni Jardin provides a wealth of links to other blogs from Madrid.
This is a sad day for the world. The news is already filled with speculation over who is responsible. At first, the blame fell on ETA, but late evidence suggests an al-Qaeda connection. A skeptical eye immediate sees convenience in the latter. A Unified Field Theory Of Terrorism, one that encompasses Iraq, Palestine, Nepal, and Palestine lumps too many apples and oranges into one egg basket to be believable.
So, who did this?
There is a simple answer: Assholes did this. Assholes kill innocent people and, whether they do it with cellular phone explosions or by punching a button on a console, they are murderers. Assholes "following orders," little holocaust henchmen. More signifificant assholes, the ones who give the orders, say, “it’s okay to kill them because if we don’t, they will kill us.”
“Us and them,” the call of the asshole in the wild, “An eye for an eye,” the Bible tells me so - but Mohandas Gandhi said, “An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind.”
While keeping the third eye on another Gandhi quote, “It is better to be violent, if there is violence in our hearts, than to put on the cloak of nonviolence to cover impotence,” remember this all has to end somewhere. What is wrong with seeking an endpoint that minimizes violent deaths of innocents? What possible good comes from all this?
Sorry for the fucking sermon. . .the call of the pulpit was irresistable tonight, it's such a warm and cozy place.
