Against All Odds…

The new Virtual Occoquan has just been published, despite massive computer failures in the real Occoquan. Mark Hoback really deserves credit for overcoming cyber-adversity (I understand that too well myself – computer #2 is still not running after a day of intense Sisyphusian labor) so be sure to buy him a virtual beer while you’re there. Also, make it a point to bookmark filth (“Your number 1 stop for truth and beauty”), Mark’s newbie blog replacing (unless he finds he a way to recover it) the ever-popular Fried Green al-Qaedas.

Funny Story…

After incredible effort to control what the media saw in Iraq, mostly successful, the story of Abu Ghraib is broken by troops wielding digital cameras. Film can be censored, but there’s no film (What will be the response to this? To make digital cameras illegal?).

And after a battle promoted as technological “shock and awe,” the war has probably been lost because of the human element – insufficiently trained troops, undisciplined (or disciplined and trained the wrong way). All of them carrying digital cameras and recording everything of interest they saw. John Marshall wonders which movie best explains what happened at Abu Ghraib, Marathon Man or Lord Of The Flies, but it reminds me of War Of The Worlds.

So, anyway, here’s the funny part. OPENING SOON – AT A THEATER NEAR YOU! Troy – starring Brad Pitt as Achilles!
